Ramadan 2026: History, Spiritual Benefits, Importance of Fasting & Why Every Muslim Must Keep All Roza
Ramadan 2026: The Holy Month that changes the Soul, cleanses the Heart and rewrites the Destiny.
In the noisy world with his/her distractions and desires, when the heart grows quiet, and the soul opens its eyes, it is the month of Ramadan. It is not just a season of fasting, it is a call of Allah to clean our sins, to uplift our personality and to rejoin our Creator in the most personal manner.
And let us study this blessed month, the scholar will learn, the student of knowledge will learn, with reverence, and with clarity and with sincerity.
The Historical Orientation of Ramadan: As revelation flowed down on man kind.
The world was in need of God and divine guidance long before fasting was made compulsory. The last Messenger of Allah, Muhammad ﷺ was given the revelation and the first revelation was received in the year 610 CE, in the Holy city of Mecca, in the holy cave of Hira, which is located in the mountain.
It was through that revelation that started the glorious book, the Quran -the ultimate guidance to mankind.
Many years later, (624 CE) fasting in the month of Ramadan became mandatory to the believers. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183) Allah says:
O you who have faith, fasting is ordained against you as it was ordained against your forefathers, lest you might become earnest.
Therefore, Ramadan is not a cultural practice - it is a God-based precept which is founded on revelation.
The Supreme Divine Intention of Fasting: Reaching Taqwa and Spiritual Highness.
Fasting is not merely an act of not eating and drinking. It is the science of the body, the cleansing of the heart, and the drilling of the soul.
Fasting is actually meant to achieve Taqwa - the increased consciousness of Allah in all actions. When a faithful person abandons licit food and beverage in the name of Allah, he gets to know how to abandon more easily licit actions.
Ramadan teaches:
Patience in hunger
Control over desires
Precaution against lying and backbiting
Shielding the eyes and the heart against pollution.
Due to this, scholars state: When fasting does not alter your character, then you have fasted, but not fasted in the word of sin.
Greater Than a Thousand Months: Laylatul Qadr.
Laylatul Qadr -the Night of Power is one of the greatest blessings of Ramadan.
According to Allah, it is superior to a thousand months. On this night:
The Qur’an was first revealed.
Angels descend with mercy.
Sins are forgiven.
The following year decrees are composed.
A single hearty act of worship may be worth 83 years of service. How a chance, those who need to be forgiven!
Victories throughout History in Ramadan: Power of Faith.
Ramadan is not a month of feeble mindedness, it is a strength month.
During Ramadan:
The Battle of Badr (624 CE) was fought in which a small band of faithful was able to subdue a mighty army.
The Islamic history changed as the Conquest of Mecca took place (630 CE).
An example of these teachings is the fact that fasting does not make a person weaker, it makes one more dependent on Allah.
